Strata was built with an owner's mindset. We believe capital should be invested the way a business owner thinks – deliberately, selectively, and detailed. This approach is often lost in an industry focused on gathering assets, selling complicated products, and short-term expectations. Based in Calgary, Alberta, our roots are in a region shaped by cycles, uncertainty, and resilience. Those influences are reflected in how we approach investment management. Strata was created to bring the focus back to ownership – of businesses, decisions, and of outcomes.

Ryan Thomas, CFA
Managing Partner & Co-Founder
Ryan is a Co-Founder of Strata, where he leads the management of the firm and its investment platform.
Ryan has worked closely with high-net-worth individuals and families, business owners, not-for-profit organizations, and institutions throughout his career. He has held roles spanning leadership, research, trading, and portfolio management in both Calgary and Toronto, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of the investment management ecosystem.
Before launching Strata, Ryan was Vice President & Portfolio Manager at a Calgary-based investment firm. In addition to managing portfolios and working directly with clients, he contributed to the firm's research process, served as head trader, and held broader management responsibilities within the organization. Prior to that, Ryan worked at a large, Toronto-based investment firm in roles across trading, research, and portfolio management.
Having operated across every core function of a portfolio management firm, Ryan brings a practical, full-cycle perspective to both investing and running the business. This experience directly influences the disciplined approach Strata takes on behalf of its clients.

Jordan Lazic, CFA
Partner & Co-Founder
Jordan is a Co-Founder of Strata, where he leads initiatives in investment management, corporate strategy, and business development.
An accomplished entrepreneur, Jordan founded and served as President, CEO, and Chairman of Anova Resources Ltd., a Calgary-based energy company. Under his leadership, Anova delivered roughly 30x return on invested capital for shareholders after being sold to another producer. At the time of the sale, Anova had over 20 staff.
Jordan currently serves as Chairman of Artesian Energy Corp. and Chairman of Valence Resources Corp.
A serial entrepreneur with deep, hands-on experience in building and scaling businesses, Jordan brings practical insight into how companies operate – from capital allocation and strategic decision-making to organizational leadership – experience that directly translates to his contributions at Strata.
